Electronic Music and the Origin of The Digital Poets Society

Music has been an integral component of my artistic practice since its inception. However, my journey into composing and playing electronic music was set in motion in 2010, preceding a period of creating mix-tapes to accompany my artwork. Notably, the electronic music I create serves as both inspiration and complement to my visual art, where each beat and synth line informs the movement and emotional resonance of my works.

Subsequently, the concept of forming The Digital Poets Society, an experimental electronic rock band, emerged in 2010 through my alter ego, Eddy Free. The band’s musical evolution stemmed from a desire to compose original soundscapes that would accompany my visual art, fine art installations, and associated video art projects.

The creative influences for the music performed by The Digital Poets Society span a diverse range of artists, including David Lynch, Kraftwerk, The Chromatics, Portishead, Joy Division, Radiohead, Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Art of Noise, Peter Gabriel, Robert Fripp, John Cage, and Philip Glass.

For your reference, I have included one of my earlier compositions titled “Shade.” To listen to the track, please click on the music player below and turn up the volume.
